Hilary Alger has worked in the field of development for over 25 years.  She has hands-on experience in all facets of fundraising and has run both annual giving and capital campaigns.  For over nine years, she served as Director of Development for Pennsylvania Ballet, an internationally recognized ballet company headquartered in Philadelphia.  At the Ballet, she helped increase major giving from individuals, completed a $10 million comprehensive campaign, and led a capital campaign of $25 million to erect new dance studios in Center City, Philadelphia. The new facility, called the Louise Reed Center for Dance, opened in January 2013.

 

Hilary’s past experience includes raising major gifts for the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia; managing the development program for Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, a settlement house in New York City; and overseeing foundation and corporate relations for The Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival in New York City. She began her career in development at the New York City-based consulting firm, Shakin, Lichty & Boreyko (now Shakin Boreyko Consulting) where she wrote foundation and corporate grants for arts and social service organizations such as National Dance Institute (NDI) and the Brooklyn Public Library.

 

In addition to serving her own clients through Hilary Alger Consulting, Hilary works as a consultant for Schultz & Williams. Founded in 1987, Schultz & Williams (schultzwilliams.com) is a national consulting firm dedicated to helping nonprofits of all types and sizes achieve financial stability, meet organizational goals and support greater mission impact.

 

Hilary received her BA from Yale University and lives in Center City, Philadelphia with her husband and daughter. She is a Trustee of Pennsylvania Ballet and Target Margin Theater (New York City), and serves on the School Committee of Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia.
